Simply elegant, modern-natural, relaxed-formal, traditional......

From time to time something interesting, unusual, rare, or simply too good to say no to crosses our path.   Usually this is
an etching or a print, lithograph or suchlike.    Occasionally, if it falls within our genre, we take it to our studio and weeks,
month, or even - as in the case of one item, a year later it emerges to our satisfaction.
To pass our 'test' an item must be "simple but elegant" and 'speak it's quality'.  .

Here are some examples:

First, a series 0f 6 exceptional quality near-original reprints from 'The Oaks of North America' by Andre Michaux, c 1800.
Dimensions are:    24.25” x 19”  (62 x 48cm)

The Oaks of North America’,
published in Paris, 1801.

Friend to Thomas Jefferson,

and George Washington!

Truly a magnificent series.      Here they are shown
framed in the manner of a master-framer in the early
19th century.
The frames are fully hand made and hand finished.
We offer this series framed in Ash, finished
as medium oak.
The centre-frame is polished by hand to a gentle sheen.
The outer frame is sealed with colour, then shellac,
then hand polished to a warm oak colour.
Appointed Kings botanist Andre Michaux arrived in
New York in 1785 soon establishing a garden and
base in New Jersey. An energetic fellow, he then
moved south and begun work on an 11 acre garden
in Charleston. He travelled down to Spanish
Florida and North to Quebec in search of rare and
unusual plants.
His primary mission was to send back to France
tree species to help replenish her forests sorely
depleted from years of building ships of war.
He is credited with introducing the mimosa, crepe
myrtle, camellia and tea plant to America!

Next a series 0f 3 elegant reprints from an English artist who (in this instance) captured the spirit of October
with admirable restraint and stunning simplicity.
The artwork has a slight emboss-indent  which can best be see in the right hand image.  It makes for a very
nice effect.

Framed in Ash, with a pale colour wash then hand polish.  The inner frame also has a pale backing colour which is
them lime-washed and waxed to provide no challenge to the image.
Dimensions are (approx) 57 x 37cm (22.5 x 14.5").
